Sorry if I am posting in the wrong section.
I am brand new to this, and was pushed into being in charge of our site, not cause I know anything, but because I have free time.
Here is what we have IPB Version 2.1.3 SQL Version,MYSQL (4.1.21-standard-log)PHP Version 4.4.4 Powered by PHPNUKE plat.

1. What programs do I need on my home maching? inorder to update the site.
Please keep in mind I know nothing, so the more detail the better.

2. Once I have all the software on my maching, is there a way to mirror them so if or when I screw something up I does not show on our site?

Possible he meant Xampp: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

With that he can work on the localhost and test before he upload something.
Budo7 You can also make a copy in a folder of your website only for tests.

The only thing that I can get to work on my maching is the FT access. I have the myphpadmin but can not seem to get it to work, can't find the exe file.

Will download the apachefriends program. ty Susann.

Should I download whats on the host to my machine?

Just so new to all this, first it was the password, now modules, and blocks, lol.

With Xampp you have also PhpMyAdmin and you can test offline your site if you have the files there and the database tables are created.
Your webhoster should have PhpMyadmin installed. You can check this e.g. in the database.
There you can also create backups and you should have backups to restore your site. Within nuke forums administration its also possible to make a backup. Because you are a newbie its helpful if you read about all that questions you have in the forum and FAQ. You ll find answers to the most of your questions I´m sure.
