setting permissions

I wondered if it was a setting like that in the sentinel configeration or I had set the htaccess permissions incorrectly in chmod in the ftp client.

I realise now your intentions where only good, please forgive me and hope you understand my immedate reaction, this was due to having a site hacked before, one is very wary and needs to be vigilant these days.

if u are still willing to help me sort this out, am happy to listen and learn as I need to learn about htaccess badly Smile

so far I have only learnt how to install php standalone software and also postnuke and phpnuke and modules and how to attach, also setting up databases and taken me 3 years so far just to get this far. In a way is sort of lazy as you dont touch the htaccess on alot of ready made software Smile

Ok I thnk I have it sorted out.

I read the instructions again and more slowly this time and followed it down to a T.

I changed the path where it said with the admin http auth, but did not change any other settings yet. I changed some settings last time I think what caused it to go wrong.

I dare not changed any other settings lol.

The little box came up as it said on the page and it accepted my admin name and password, so I guess this is working ok now.

It was the issue of the chmoding of the htaccess I was worried about I take it we leave that alone unless its a smaller group.

The distribution comes with all the important NukeSentinel(tm) settings already set. That eases the pain and confusion and it makes you safe, right out of the box. I can't set the .htaccess because I don't know what yout HOST may or may not allow, otherwise I would.

I think the lesson learned here is that we should not "test" anyone's site w/o their expressed permission. I have been working on an intrusion detection script for testing the security of your site. What the heck, the crackers use them so I have borrowed from them as I scour their sites. Other faithful members with ties to the "underground" send me scripts also. I just need to scrub them and make it user-friendly. The big problem, obviously, is that I can't make it available to anyone Laughing

)) It does the job really well.

i tried to install it on nuke 78 but found that I coudlnt get the module showing was just a white page and from a previous experience I wanted my site fully proofed.

anyway I decided on your distribution because of it already being hacker proof and it is trusted Smile

.

My problem is I often think I am too stupid to do things like this ie php coding etc but am starting to learn with the sql tables it seems, but its a long story how that came about and I lack the confidence. So far taken me 3 years to learn this so far with scripts.

i was thinking earlier I would like to help in some way but not sure what.
