ok here's the mistery..
on a subdomain i have a script running with an admin folder,i wanted to protect the admin folder by the simple but effective. htaccess with .htpasswd
but for some unexplained reason it doesnt work.
i do get the popup but non of the info entered is accepted.

im using something like this:

AuthUserFile /home/me/public_html/script/admin/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName EnterPassword
AuthType Basic

require user administrator

and in the .htpasswd i put in the encrypted pass.
ive tried several ways and generators but i cant get the login to work.

keep in mind that the script runs on its own website but the whole stuff is stored under a subdomain.
but that shouldnt be a problem cause the full path is used in AuthUserFile.

Anyone have an idea why this isnt working ?

oh I wish you knew what you did.
I have same problem with a subdomain - both my main and subbomains are protected by .htaccess.
First it was only the subdomain protected - it worked
Then I added on the main - it worked -BUT the subdomain loops in the logon
First time it gives the logon for the Subdomain (I can see on Auth Name) but after logging in I get new logons but with AuthNames like this: Protected-109815 by NukeSentinel(tm

Is there some directory settings I need in the 2 .htaccess files??
