Is there a way to "subscribe" to a forum?

It would be very cool if every time a new thread was posted, or a thread was replied to in any given forum (ie. Security/PHPNuke), an email was sent out in the same manner as when a thread is subscribed to.

Have I missed it and there is a way or is this a good idea that could be somehow implemented? I would find it very valuable to be able to receive emails telling me to check the site for new posts/threads in the most important forum on the site to me.

There is a "watch this forum" mod somewhere... it's called Notification Mod.
