Hi,

Does anyone know of a good TXT / PHP editor I'm thinking of 2 but not sure if there good.

1. Ultra Edit
2. Zend Studio

But not sure which to pick as they both look good.

Last but not least, I love Crimson Editor [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Fast, free and well, pretty darn good.

Notepad and Wordpad should not be used for editing php files - period. While some may get away with it, most do not. Macrohard, er Microsoft, adds spaces and lines which will screw up the files for use on *nix. Some have escaped their trap, but many are those who have followed and regretted it ROTFL. I use and recommend Textpad.

I stopped using Dreamweaver. It gave me the same problems as Notepad.

I like dreamweaver, the only problem is that it is a pretty big program.

I tried UltraEdit and Dreamweaver. UltraEdit isn't bad, and Dreamweaver is overkill for me. I use AceHTML Pro (the free version - no longer offered - was just as good), Crimson Editor and Eclipse. Though Eclipse has promise and both AceHTML and Eclipse have prompting/help for PHP and other languages, Crimson is the fastest and easiest.

Notepad/Wordpad are deadly to CGI Perl/Python also - causes many of those dreaded Code 500 server errors... Wink

Interesting...

Eight months have passed since I last posted in this thread, and I'm still using WinSyntax 99% of the time, but it's starting to look a little 'yellow' these days, especially since I started playing around with Notepad++

I do LOT of 'coding'. I need an editor that is small, portable, and doesn't get in my way, so to speak. I wanna get into scripts, do my business, and back out again without fussing around with a lot of stuff I'll never use. I work off of a 'thumb drive' as much as a hard drive, blah, blah, blah...

WinSyntax is still #1 in my book. However, Notepad++ is bringing up the rear! Wink

Hrm... I've got another one for you... maybe...

I don't know if anyone else is interested in THIS sort of stuff, so I don't want to start another thread, but here's another great editor, albeit NOT a text/HTML editor!

ResHacker: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

I discovered this 'editor' a while back, while patching Spybot Search & Destroy. A bug has been present in the 'teatimer' executable for about a year, and I got tired of waiting for 'them' to fix it, so I fixed it... with the help of ResHacker. This app is a beauty!

Anyway, I thought I'd throw that in the mix, for what it's worth... Wink

Thanks, that´s a very special editor. Interesting is also the link at the bottom for " German readers". 10 pages about this editor:

Greatly used but stopped with them:

Winsyntax, notepad, vi, PHPDesigner

Crap that i've tried:

Dreamweaver, crimson, PHP Coder, WebCore, PHP Edit, PHP Notepad and many more that don't support unicode.

GREAT STUFF i still use:

- UltraEdit = great for huge files, it can your 1Gb apache logs without crashing
- Notepad2 = used for single fast file editing, no tabbing
- WinMerge
- HHD Hex Editor

Hrm...

Just installed UltraEdit-32, since it was mentioned a couple of times here. Can't say I'm really impressed, so far. Maybe it grows on you. That's the nature of these things... Wink

Not to beat a dead horse, but I should have mentioned... for raw HTML I use whatever happens to be handy, since I know HTML backwards, forwards, and upside down. However, when things really matter, I crank up HomeSite 5.5, just to make sure everything is up to snuff (whatever that means). That's still the best HTML editor, IMHO, bar none -- but, I really don't use it that much any more -- only when I'm obviously overlooking something, and can't figure it out -- and I'm in a hurry, or some such situation.

If you work with a lot of HTML, it might behoove you to look into it...

BTW, WinSyntax handles HUGE log files too -- never fails to amaze me, how well it does with them!

Yep that is a sweet program! Used it for many things, including to change the word "Start" in the start button to "Stray"! Razz
