Hello all,

I generally use IE, and at times Netscape 4.79. I have been working on my site now and just today someone said your site is messed up. I am like NO! So they told me to take a look in FireFox. I did so, and sure enough the header it appears has some issues.

What I need help with, I am capable of altering things, but I need a bit of direction as I am not that up on themes. Please have a look at the site, I removed/deactivated all my blocks so that all that appear are the main page, the header and footer. Please note the Forum image has dropped down a bit, and is out of place.

When I have my firstcenter block added, the bottom of the table has a gap about 20 pixels or so across te bottom. Here is the link http://www.sckserver.com/index.php , and I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone could provide to me!

Best regard,
Thomas

Good catch lets see what I can do to "help" the situation and not hinder it.
I have run across one thing, theme.php pecifies an overall width of 100% I am good with that. However when I goto into the header file, I find that the colums add up to 1178 wide.

Code:
<TR>

      <TD width="374">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=30 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="164">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=11 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="199">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=41 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="85">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=83 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="68">

         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=56 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="81">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=62 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="70">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=58 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="121">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=97 HEIGHT=1></TD>
      <TD width="7">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=1></TD>

      <TD width="9">
         <IMG SRC="themes/SilkSilver/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=6 HEIGHT=1></TD>
   </TR>

So if my thinking is correct, that could be what is causing the issues with the "gallery" image dropping down?
I appreciate you help, just writing down all my changes so I can submit them as I go. It is fun, but at times frustrating.

Thank you Raven, and I apologize for posting my site up as well, I will edit it in a second, I do not like spamming, was just in need of help at a frustrating period of time Confused

Spamming? You didn't spam anywhere. Feel free to post your site links as long as you don't advertise Hosting Smile . You really need to provide the link so that we can see the effect.

kk Raven, I re-added the link, I did a test, I upped my screen Res to 1280 wide, and the theme looks perfect in Firefox. So I believe this is the culprit. For reasons that I am unsure of, an object within an object of 100% width in IE displays "correctly" (using the term very loosely lol and not perceptually correct in FireFox.

I will modify the header and check the footer and downsize the TD widths and see what happens. May not get it all finished up tonight, but I will try!

I appreciate your help Raven!

Ok the Banner Area is corrected for viewing at 1024 pixels wide in Firefox, without doing any damage to IE, below 1024 pixels wide, FF users are on thier own!

I will have to continue with discovering what is going on with the blocks tomorrow as it is late. when I have identified a fix for that I shall gather my notes and post them.

To do:
Remove double body tag.
Correct lower section of center blocks dropping about 10-20 pixels creating a gap.
gather notes.
post findings and fixes.
Get feedback Smile
Do some more fixing!
And continue with my projects I was working on prior to having this small bug pointed out to me!

You know, if I did not love this them so much, I would not bother! I suppose it just does it for me hehe worship

Unfortunately, most of your problems are relative to the fact that your theme is not W3C compliant. This isn't unusual, in fact (again, unfortunately) it's the norm. There are only a few of us that have compliant themes and this comes only after a great deal of work.

At present, (since making that adjustment) your theme doesn't look that bad in Firefox at 1024 width; however, forget about seeing your site from a Mac with OS/9 or anything that is forced to use older browser types like pre-IE 6.x.

Next, I wanted to point out that you don't need the THEME BY DISPAL in your header. You only need to carry that in your footer (it is already there too) so you can take that out of your header image and put your slogan there.

Finally, I wanted to mention that your Nuke tools block has a ton of errors in it. Again, not unusual, but I figured I would take a ton of errors off your site by providing my recoded version. You can get it at: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

You will also need to add the language definitions for the block/module so that the names appear correctly (Names being each function).

Hope this helps!
Steph

I just got a chance to come back and reply to my original post! I appreciate you r help Raven, and yours as well 64BitGuy! I had a long discussion with some friends over IR, Netscape, FireFox, Mozilla etc. I went to the W3C site and ran my index page from my site in the checker. At that point I thought it best to goto Disipal's site and ask for help. Disipal replied very quickly, and he thanked me for letting him now about the FireFox issue, as he had not used iit as much at the time of it's creation. He provided a link to download corrected files so that the entire theme, along with Forums now displays correctly!

I will update my Tools Block, I had often times wondered about the question marks, and was just gettting ready to hunt down an answer to this. You have most assuredly saved me some time 64Bit Smile As it is a new site I am still trying to get everything up and running. I saw your previous postings as well and had very much considered having you go through my theme etc. when it is completed to make it compliant. The way I look at it, If there is a potential customer who comes to my site, or any site for that matter, and the web page explodes on them, or does not function correctly, you have more than likely just lost a sale.

In short, expect to see me soon! Razz Always appreciate the good people here Raven! Thank you all
