What FTP client is a good one to use? I have FTP Explorer and it works ok, but it wokred better before I got WinXP.

Is there a good, free program out there?

If not, what program would be good that I would need to pay for. I prefer free, but am willing to pay some money for a good FTP client

Thanks

I find WS_FTP the best, I use to use CuteFTP which was good too but it stopped working so my vote is with WS_FTP v9. [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Ws_FTP is good, another one that has a lot of nice featues and is free is AceFTP 3.

It is very nice except for one thing I have not found yet how to turn off. if you click on a file it will try to display it, which is great when you are bobbing around a site trying to remember which file it was that you needed, but a real bummer if you are uploading GanjaUK's PC Killer and kill yourself. Smile

Here's a list of 7 free FTP clients. I haven't tried them all, but I've heard good things about CoreFTP. I bought a license to AceFTP Pro some time ago, and it works well enough for me, though I had problems with the free version.

I use FlashFXP and have for a couple years now. I tried many different clients (free and shareware) and ultimately settled on this one and paid for it and haven't looked back.....

Core FTP - Free, easy to use and is table on my system. I had ws_ftp and think this is actually better. If you want to view .htaccess just right click got to directory commands go to list mode and select advanced. Need to set file properties, right click the file hit permissions and type in the actual number.... you can do it the old way with the check boxes too if you prefer. Great, check it out.

LoL! This is a venerable thread, so what the heck...

My vote, for best FTP client, goes to WS_FTP Pro 9.0!

Having said that, I avoid using FTP if at all possible. SCP is the way to go, IMHO!

My preferred choice - the one I use 99% of the time - is WinSCP: [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Im using smart ftp v2.0.996. and it keeps placing files like this one into files on the server

[05:03:06] 550 Prohibited file name: .pureftpd-upload.444c4a07.15.302e.1d069e3b

worse still it wont upload large files and i cant delete the files it adds. what a lot of hassle, im sick of it.

it took 4 hours to upload nuke 76, going back to web folders.

Been using the free FileZilla (get from SourceForge) for about 6 months now and have had NO issues with any transfer that I have ever done (once I figured out how to get .htaccess to transfer as ASCII). It has my BIG thumbs up.
