Hmmm, are all files and pictures changed from v2.1.2 to v2.1.3? If you do "minor updates" please let us know the files which should be upgraded (so we dont have to replace iles which havent been changed), thanx.

Hmmm, it seems that following files have been changed from 2.1.2 to 2.1.3, correct? Why all files should been updated?

Sometimes we do only updates, other times full packs. It depends on the nature of the changes and the available time we have on our hands. Keep in mind that we have full time jobs and do this in our 'spare' time and we have to do what we are able to do in a limited amount of time.

Yes, we all have our full time jobs so the spare time is very limited. That's why it would be good idea to inform people what they have to do (e.g. in this case updating only needed files would been enough. Giving partly misleading answers is not a good idea in a long run.

I hope that you understood what I was trying to say, no offence Smile.

Keep up a good work by developing Nuke Sentinel! It has saved many sites from hacking.

Really, this is making mountains out of molehills...

Everytime I upgrade Sentinel, I just replace the entire filesystem. What's the big deal about 'only updated files'? Who cares? This package isn't nearly big enough to make a difference. Is saving 2 mins that valuable? Just upload ALL files and move on with your life... doing CRC checks?? ROTFL

Ah, lol

Saving two minutes? Hehehe, with my cable modem I can upload the entire package in about 5 seconds.

Whereas if I had to scrutinize the upgrade instructions to find the list of files to upload, navigate into each of those subdirectories and highlight which files to upload in my FTP client, then upload them into there respective proper locations, I'd be there a good 10 minutes.

I'm very happy with a complete overwrite. It's a straigh forward, easy to understand system.. Highlight everything with CRTL Shift and hit the giddy' up button....

Thanks guys!!

You've lost me on this statement. When have I/we been misleading about anything?

Jeez, let it go and just upload all the files and run the script. You'll spend more time trying to figure out which files have changed and which haven't than you would have if you would've just uploaded everything to begin with. Smile

Raven and Bob bust their butts to help us secure our websites. I for one am not going to sit and criticize them for it.

The only thing that I can think of that might be of some use is letting us know when something has changed within the Core Nuke files as these we almost invariably must do manually given the number of mods many of us make.

Other than that, I agree with everyone else that it is much simpler to just upload everything else!

Greetings and happy New Year to all,

I'm Fernando (AKA, Ancient) and thank you for providing a system of protection for nuke sites. I confess that I'm a total neophyte. I know, just what you want to hear.

I'm currently developing a site for my online jazz station. I'm very concerned about security and thus I've downloaded your software. Sentinel. Here's a couple of questions:

a) I'm currently using 7.5 version of nuke. Should I upgrade to the new version? The $10 bucks is not a big deal if it's going to make a difference in securing the site and implementing the best Sentinel has to offer. Please advice.

b) When I was configuring the various blocks for sentinel, the Write to .htaccess said 'not available. Do I need to upload this file and delete the sample part of the file's name? (see I told you I was a neophyte) Should I upload both the .staccess and the .htaccess? My server is an appache server. I just thought it would already be there from my host.

Also, for the Email IP look up, instead of yes/no, I have something about Arin.net and DSNstuff.com. Which should I use?

Anyway, I thank you for any guidance you have to offer. I did look through the archives but did not find sufficient info.

Oh, one more thing, I was looking around this site earlier and had not logged in. My internet connection kept shutting off. Once I logged in, it stoped disconnecting. Is this a feature of Sentinel to keep potential hackers off, or just a coincidence?

Thanks,

Fernando Bernall

No, 7.6 ads a rather useless function of renaming the admin.php file. If you want to spend $10, just donate it here Smile. You can get v7.6 patched from here for free.

That means that your host is running PHP as a cgi program rather than an Apache module. That just means that you have to use the CGIAuth method that utilizes the .htaccess and .staccess.

Use either Smile.

Never heard of any issues like that so I hope it's a coincidence Wink
