User blocked when viewing profile

I allow users to create accounts using clan tags since I have a gaming site. I have a user that got banned because of this.
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

I know it is the ( that got him banned. Is there any kind of a work around for this kind of stuff?

Remove the edit for (). Keep in mind that nuke would have stopped it too, so you'll have to edit in more than one place. I would consider using -qX instead of (qX)

How do I edit this to keep out parenthesis?

Here is what I have in your_account index.php

[^a-zA-Z0-9_ \.-\[\]]

You have some recomendations for me?

Is supposed to only allow lowercase and uppercase a to z, numbers 0 to 9, - and _

I let people have [] and {} for clan tags and such.
