Hey folks,

I have a problem in my forums, for the most part they work fine but there are many instances when you click on a forum topic or a thread link where it then goes to an error page like this
Quote:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

if you hit refresh once or twice however the correct topic or thread link shows up fine. Is there a timing issue going on or does anyone have any ideas?

so what can I check on the server, all other portions of my website work fine except for this issue. Is there something special that gets called on Forums that does not get called on a regular web page call? Here are some of the errors that show up-

don't know if this helps but thought it may be insightful for some, I have little experience trying to diagnose this sort of thing, if anyone has any comments, please post

Actually, I have just starting noticing it too - I put it down to my crappy bowser initially but it appears this is not the cause.
I don't tend to notice it on the site much, when viewing threads in the forum but, it seems more predominant (for me atleast) when going to the url via an email link i.e the link sent in emails advising you of a new post to the thread.

More often, I tend to get the message the post could not be found or has been deleted (something like that) but a refresh always works fine - weird!

I would also recommend running a datbase repair on all tables. This could also mean the hard drive may be going bad. Either of those reasons could cause the flakiness.

Would this be reasonable guidance to follow to do a database repair in MYSQL?

You can either use command line syntax or just use phpMyAdmin. phpMyAdmin is the simplest.

Thanks Raven, I'll give that a go and see what happens.
I'm hoping it isnt the hard drive as its a brand new quad pentium server I'm using.

Ran a db repair using phpMyAdmin, problem I had previously is still there but seems to happen more often.grrrr...not sure how to proceed next. I almost think it has to be related to this in my PHPBB error log

This would seem to indicate a connection failure to the database - I presume from this error tht you are using PC as the server in which, I'm not really the one to help you much more as this is outside of my field of knowledge.

Yes, well if the script was not connecting to the database, this error ' not a valid MySQL-Link resource ' would make some sort of sense.
I am at a loss as to why it is only relevant to themes though, the whole phpnuke site should be down if their is no DB connection.

Ah, a syntax error in the file webhost.php file.
I think this relates to an extra or missing '}' or '{'

If you have modified the webpost.php recently, it would be well worth double checking those modifications.

I was able to get rid of all my theme related issues by re-uploading all my theme files with a newer version from the author. I still face the same issue tho with the page cannot be displayed problem but what I am seeing in Apache Error Log now is this
