How to 'hide' forum category and subsections

Is there a way to 'hide' a forum category and all the threads under it?

I want to remove a section but I don't want to delete all the threads and posts that are under it..

Just set it to "private hidden" and don't give anyone or groups permission to it.

Yes that works for a certain thread, but the option to hide a Category is not there and is not as easy (or it appears so).

if you hide all the forums under a Category it will also be hidden I believe.

Would be a bit of an effort if your forum had alot of sections, though!
