Hello, I've been trying to instal RavenNuke onto the server I'm renting. I get through all the steps in the tutorial fine, upload them into the correct folder, than access the installation page, and I get this error when I try to install the core tables.

The exact error message that your MySQL server reported is:
MySQL Error # 4 = Specified key was too long; max key length is 1000 bytes

I trouble shooted it, and I found out something in the MySQL database being in the UTF8_bin and it needing to be switched to Latin1_bin charset...
Found HERE

I have no idea how to do that, or where to start. Here are the stats on the server, if you could help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Operating system: Linux
Kernel version: 2.6.24.7-grsec
Machine Type: i686
Apache version: 1.3.41 (Unix)
PERL version: 5.8.8
PHP version: 5.2.6
MySQL version: 5.0.45-community
cPanel Build: 11.18.6-STABLE 24255
Theme: cPanel X v2.6.0

You may want to search on the forums, I'm sure this has been addressed before

Yeah, I saw a topic like this before, but I don't believe it told me how I could change it..

Well, putting that exact error message into a site-level google search produced only 5 or so results. Sad Did you try this one:

I did what those told me to do, I changed the INSTALLATION/sql/rn_core.sql as well as the /INSTALLATION/rndb_upgrade.php to match this post. [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

I also changed my database in phpMyAdmin on the main screen to latin1_swedish, as well as changed the database itself. So I'm ultamately lost.. But I do have a diffrent error now.

MySQL Error # 4 = Duplicate entry 'Feeds-use_fb' for key 1
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] That posts tells me to drop or change the table or something, how would I do that and still be able to use the modules I wish to install?

While this post says the guy fixed it by creating a diffrent version on his database. [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

Well, you don't run both of those. I would delete all the tables within your database and re-run the installSQL.php script now that you have modified rn_core.sql. You shouldn't get an error for duplicate entry then.

I fixed this acouple of days ago, if you get this error. First delete the database, and create a new one, go into phpmyadmin, go to operations, and change the database to latin1_. Than re-run the INSTALLTION/MySQL.

I don't see the ability to change it to latin1_ anywhere on there...I just have the option to create a new table under operations...anyone know a way to fix it?

latin1 is a default so I'm not sure why you don't have it. I would ask your hosting provider.

I think I was the first one to report this and I also do not have Latin1 in the list. However, on very close inspection I noticed no ill effects in the DB. "False Positive" maybe?

Also of note, I think that MySQLDumper can be configured for Latin1. I installed the app but didn't get a chance to take a really good tour of the prefs yet.

Cheers

SET NAMES latin1;

I was using a MySQL4 database but once I moved to a MySQL 5 database, it flew through like a charm. Thanks for all the insight guys.

MySQL5, just like PHP5.2, is the way to go... if you can.
