Nuke Sentinel should block all of those. Such automated attacks are happening every day. Just keep your site up-to-date and patched.

Can automated attacks by robots really harm the site? Or what is the purpose of them?

They are trying to take over your site to vandalize it, add content, etc.

Yes they can. Normally these scripts will compromise your system to add to their botnet, where they can be further used to DDOS, hack, or just host malacious scripts. You may want to ask your host what they use to detect botnet activities and what they do when such security issues happen. Many hosts will terminate you immediately, the blame-the-user policy.
