send e-mails in small groups?

has anyone seen a mod that would allow your site to send e-mails in small bunches instead of in mass?

No. The HTML newsletter application will send email to any nsngroup (LOL, once you sort out your problems with that) so if you broke your site users up into groups you could send the email in pieces that way. Before that I wrote something that dumped a semi-colon delimited list of user emails to the screen in groups of n hundred. I'd copy that to the bcc field of a gmail email and send it that way. That was because gmail let me send up to 500 addresses at a time whereas my own email account, Roadrunner limited me to 100. The Ipowerweb server I was on at the time had a limit that made sending mass emails of any sort impossible. Raven is much more generous but not unlimited of course.
