Speed vs. keeping your site from being hacked... I don't think you have to be concerned with the speed. Of course additional code and database calls are going to be slower, but I doubt you would actually notice the difference.

I would suggest that the following blockers should be set to "Email, Block and Default Page": ADMIN, AUTHOR, CLIKE, UNION, Filters.

You may want to have "Flood" set to "OFf" until you need it. "Scripting" may be another one you might consider having full block. The others, up to you.

This is what the default RavenNuke76 distro settings are for Nuke Sentinel.

According to the page generation time script it took 0.23 seconds for me here in the UK.
If you are concerned with speed, there are a number if things you can look at.
Header images - check their file (byte) sizes and trim down if possible. That Rockingham graphics banner looks very nice but its over 24k in size (some people do still use dial-up services).
Look closely at your blocks and carefully select which are viewable to 'all visitors' and which are for 'registered users'.
What I tend to do is look at all the data my site can produce and then place all data such as blocks / modules which I think are beneficial to my site for Search Engine crawling and put those to 'all visitors' - everything else is set to 'registered users only'.

I get the same as Guardian in terms of the time it took the server to generate the page, but from an overall load time (first time load), it took 20 - 30 seconds. Once the javascript for your Time Clock and images were cached locally, it was speedy enough.
