Session_start Permission denied

Well for months everthing has been fine.. then suddenly I'm getting the following messages:

I've changed nothing on the site for over a week and the host is denying any knowledge of changes their side.

Grateful for some ideas on what has gone wrong?

I also notice the following error at the bottom of the page;

Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (E:\PHP\sessiondata) in Unknown on line 0

This suggests to me that the session.save_path is incorrect/non writable. Is this a php only setting?
