I have a number of nuke based sites, they all have GT installed on them, i now want to change the way rewrites are handled for just the forums i.e.

I want to change
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

to instead be
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

and same for threads i.e. grab the thread title and use first bit as the url i.e.
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

instad
[ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ]

any ideas on how to go about doing this ?

I do not think you can do what you want. You can only use the information that is present in the URL to rewrite it. You would have to change the base code of the forums to pass the title in the url. Which would not work, let alone be a good idea.
