In mostly situations proxies are the only possibility of connection...
In many companies the internet connection is obtained using proxy-firewall tecnology.
If you filter the proxy you close the visibility of your site to a big amount of professional users...
I don't understand why you (all) are so scary of proxy.
A proxy is a host witha a ip address... if you where attakked from an host of this kind, simply ban this ip, but not ban all the proxy softwares...

Sorry for my very bad english.

well my reason for this is very simple, and my english isnt that great as well.
i have a few sites and not all of them run on phpnuke but are just simple websites.
They do use mysql and php so atleast thats something...
but the problem is ,is that the website sometimes gets visitors (probably just 1 person) that tries to add his gambling content info into my comments system.
so im busy validating stuff that will never be posted.
i know that the website is [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] and that its owned by an idiot russian and that the site runs in china.
But they are using proxies to ad their junk everytime.
so yeah using some code to keep them out when they come again would be helpfull.
so thats the reason...
as for your proxy story.,....everybody has a ip ,if its a stat or dyn, these are just simple tools to help me out blocking them.

I agree with Molten2 blocking proxies takes out a large audience and all AOL users.
I think there are some more invasive validations forcing a udp connection like Earthlink does Grrr! But unless your sites like a catalog store I don't really see the point.

well im sure you agree that it isnt such a bad idea, bob build it into sentinel so im sure he thought that over and over.
but im not that concerned about someone from god knows where with an a.o.l connection or whatever that cannot visit my site.
the language is in dutch so are the visiters so to honest ,i dont care if i block proxies....as long as people visit that site with their own ip.

Its in there you can turn it on. Bob has shared another tweak privately that will more then likely get into a future version which seems to make a huge difference.

I've often blocked the netrange of spammers like that for 30 days or so then they tend to find easier pickings. There appears to be some who desire to make their living from spamming their spew on forums.

well i need some lines to add it to that website index ,im not talking about a phpnuke site, thats just the point.

so is there a piece of code.....probably in php .......that will prevent the site being visited by people that dont use their own ip.

Here's the problem with blocking proxies. No code will block 100% of the proxies. In NukeSentinel(tm) it works in series with the reserved listing to help out in the blocking. Long story short, to effextivily block proxies your need the full NukeSentinel(tm) package.

Yes, I did code in the proxy blocker for the select few people that want to use. I personally don't use it because I do have many users that must connect thru a proxy to visit the site because of their isp's including my isp Wink

to bad,i hoped there was a solution to this.
you see .....its a simple weblog and in dutch, and it has no security of its own.
so i did add a script to block people are trying to spam the comments form but a few use a proxy.....like the gambling site i posted.
so i cannot stop them...is that it ?....
but if there is such a snippet it would be my choice to use it...
