I have some hosting clients that have asked me to set up family blog/gallery pages for them. Being the innovator that I am, hehe, I scoured the net looking for one that was already made that I could tweak. What I ended up doing was taking a phpnuke 7.4 patched and hacking out almost everything so it left just a framework (So I can still use Sentinel and Autotheme). It worked so well I was thinking of wrapping one up into a GPL distro. Would anyone be interested? If so I /We could wrap it up as phpNuke-Lite. I realize that FB annouced the nuke 7.5 distro is going to be modular so I'm waiting to see what that looks like first. Thoughts?

Sounds pretty good to me. I would also strip out all the language files and make them a separate download.

Surprised I think you should keep phpbb, mainly because 99% of people who consider PHP-Nuke, use the phpbb forum.

Could you keep the abilitiy for us to install any modules not currently in there?

The idea sounds great!

Most people that want a small family site would never use forums however. People that want phpBB usually would want the whole phpnuke site I think.
The core of nuke will still be there, that way it will remain easy to support and upgrade. I don't want to create yet another fork, just a lite version. I suppose phpBB could always be optional. I'd like to see how FB tacked that in 7.5.

Sounds a brill idea, even if someone has the full blown nuke, they could use the lite version for something specific linked to a particular topic on their main site. Say if they had a small business or service that they wanted linked to their main site, but kept seperate.

Lots of uses for it I think.

Well I have most of it stripped down to the basics and have commented out the majority of the phpBB integrations. I am going to wait till nuke 7.5 before I release a version though just because they may have already solved the modularity with the new architecture.
