I recently discovered the following method for executing a query:

$result = $db->sql_query("SELECT something FROM {$prefix}_some_table WHERE something ='{$SomeThing}'"); 



What is it with the brackets?
Are there any In's and outs with it.
Is it a Do or Not done?

Just curious...........

There is also plenty of documentation at php.net. See http://php.net/manual/de/language.types.string.php for starters.
