Well, like the title says if you have this problem you are infected.

Maybe with Conficker or any other kind of virus.

You are also not able to visit the Microsoft site anymore.

For Firefox I have installed the addon NoScript, which can block from accidental downoad of malware from visited sites. I have also instructed NoScript to block iframe as hackers also use this for malware.

I think linux has also many inconvinients. I tried Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu but I like better Ubuntu. What do you think it's one of the best Distro?

I have only tried a few flavors of Linux but Ubuntu Linux is definitely my favorite. It worked immediately, is free, gives me a really nice GUI, is much, much faster than Windyblows, has never crashes or hung,mo blue screen of death and for the icing on the cake, the OS is installed (for over a year now) on a hard drive that Windyblows said was broken!!

This thread has gone from "how to clean a system of the virus" to "how to keep from getting this virus". All good stuff, but not what Susann was after... Wink

Montego you hit the nail on the head. Smile

It´s all good stuff but back to Conficker.V or similar versions I can tell you
there is always a chance to get reinfected because some free Security software isn´t able to eliminate this completely from your PC and it seems it doesn´t matter if you have the windows patch or not.

However, I´ve changed my Security software again and I´ve found the Symantec tool is very helpful and effective.

McAfee do some very nice free 'stingers' as well and although I couldn't recommend their anti-virus products, their stingers are really good. I used to run them periodically on a small corporate LAN that ran building access control systems.
F-Secure is still my anti-virus product of choice, especially when you cannot afford to have CPU cycles bogged down.
