XAMPP Suggestion from installation guide - How To Install

From the How to Install Guide:

XAMPP: It is highly recommended that you use this bundled distribution of Apache, MySQL, and PHP (there is more too) so that you can "test drive" your upgrade on your PC or home server rather than doing this on a live production site. The folks at Apache Friends make this so easy (install and "go") we cannot emphasize enough that folks get this and use it. You do not have to be a programmer in order to get a fully functional WAMP or LAMP environment up-and-running on a local system.

Hey I did just that and all I can say is that Xampp was super easy to install on Fedora 7 - backed up my sql databases - downloaded my ravennuke site via [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] Created the sql databases in xampp mysqladmin - imported the database backups I made.

and it worked without a hitch.

The only thing I had to do was go into the gallery2 module and change 2 paths - location of gallery and path of integration. Gallery 2 made me run the upgrade script and it was done.

How cool is that!

It all works locally now.

Now I can run the upgrade to 2.30 and have no worries . . . .

I highly recommend doing this!
