I installed the Msn Invitation 1.0 module into my website and it installed fine but when you put your email in to see the contacts on your list it always says "Failed to connect to server" so the module isn't working. Has anyone got any ideas what wrong with it or how to fix it I really need this to work? I did get this from clan themes but I'm having no luck in them answering my post even though it's in there downloads.
Here is the link to the module on my website, you can see for yourself what it says when you insert your email for msn.

You will need to determine the type of out going connection type this module uses by looking at the code and then confirm with your host ( as floppy suggested) that you are allowed to make that type of outgoing connections on your hosting account.
The facts are that this is an old module and MSN may have made siginficant changes which may possibly have rendered this module inoperable without extensive re-coding'

<switch to Novocastrian>
aye, yee need te check which outgoing connection type the script is using leik , then check yer host te see if they are allowed.
The fact is, tha this is an aad module so MSN may hev made significant changes which renders this module inoperable in its current state.

why-aye-man! That's nae gonna work, leek</switch>

Is it possible for someone to re write the script altogether so it's upto date if I hired a coder? If it's an old module then it probably not worth trying to sort it as it will not last very long since its old already. How long would it actually take to make this module again if a coder I hired helped me with it?

aye a nar what ya mean leik, lol

thanks for the translation Razz

Tha's misn the point Smile
Zip it and send it to me. I may be able to take a look tomorrow - at least I can identify the connection type so you can check it is allowed by your hosting service provider.
Until then, there is not much point hiring someone to fix it if your host will not allow you to use it.

Got it.
Sorry but the module doesn't work, at least for me and I know my server allows sockets so it would seem something has changed at MSN/Hotmail's end.

Is there a way I can get something off msn or hotmail that I can put into the code so it's up to date with there server? Or is it to complicated to do and has died forever?

There are some 'classes' you could use and modify the script to use those but it isn't going to be a 5 minute job.
If you really need this functionality, you could post in the 'For Hire' forum with a link to the download so those interested could see what work might be needed.
