Hi all,

My site's small and pretty much under the radar of most hackers. However, recently I've had a number of dummy accounts set up on my site ("JklLKeuklWH" kind of stuff), all using mail.ru accounts to register. No one using my site would use a mail.ru address.

I was told I could use the "String Blocker" to somehow block them from registering. I poked around there and am pretty clueless. Any tips how I'd set this up please?

The fields I see for setting this up are:

Activate:
Write to htaccess:
Forward To:
IP Block Type:
Default Page:
Email IP lookup:
Reason:
Block Duration:
String List:

I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

Best,
Oy.

Do a search for "block mail.ru" posts here at Ravens and I think you will find some things that might help you out on that....Smile

Thanks for the response!

However, after a good 10 mins of searching around, all I can find are people saying "use the NS string blocker to block mail.ru" addresses. However, I can't actually find instructions on how to do so Smile I know they're probably out there, but I just can't find a "String Blocker" FAQ or How-To.

Thanks again,
Oy.

I think the instructions where in that post but here they are again,
In the string blocker settings add in th field 'blocklist' the value '*mail.ru' (without the single quotes.)

... and, if you make a site accessible on the Internet and think you are "under their radar" you are just inviting a dive bomb attack. You are making the mistake of thinking hackers have any sense of proportion or ... heck, any sense at all.
