What features made the cut to be included?

All of the first set is "IN".
Dynamic Titles is "IN".
Nothing from the last "Maybe" set is in.
Additionally, nukeW is now FCK2.3.2, which loads faster and is more compliant, plus we have done a ton of code clean-up, XHTML compliance work, and the speed improvements with this are definitely noticeable (not to mention that your server will perform better with less "notice handling" and quicker turn-around times. |

yess i agreeeeeee standard menu is soooo bad ... but anyway thanks GOD the sommaire ppl exist lol ehheeh... got to check out that new release from them!!!... is soo great they even have system to put 2 diff menus... helps a lot if u want to have 2 menus for diff kinds of users  ....

The issue is that Sommaire has been abandoned by its author and the code is very complex, made more so by having comments and variables that are in French. In addition, since it is so easy to install, it did not make sense for us to make it standard.
The RavenNuke is not too keen on installing forum mods, especially ones in which could break other forum templates. I am personally not certain if the Forum Quick Reply Mod would do this, but I recall long back, that this was discussed and decided against for this reason. Unfortunately, I personally do not have any experience with this mod. |

There are multiple Forum Quick Reply Mods, and all impact forum templates / themes. That said, it isn't really difficult to add that after you upgrade / install RN. |

BBtoNuke 2.0.22 also has enhanced user session checking which breaks Quick Reply Mods from what I have read so far, though one author has posted a fix for his own specific Quick Reply Mod.
I cannot speak for anyone else but the reason I personally did not 'push' for the inclusion of Sommaire is the fact that it is no longer in development and the menu block produces so many 'notice errors'.
I use 3.0.1b on my own site and so far I think I have about 15 fixes in place with lots more to do and thats not even addressing HTML 4.01 Transitional or XHTML compliance.
Just as an aside and to affirm just how far The Team have ripped this thing apart and put it back together we have actually removed over 30 files that are not even needed in nuke!! |

I think about RN 2.1 as core-code on healthy steroids.  It so rocks and feels sweet and has a couple of groovy features too. (I can give up the html tag tutorials for users!!)
And, I'd like to affirm the incredible effort, the stick-to-it-ness of this RavenNuke team. If any of you ever you find yourself in Victoria, BC ... lunch is on me. I've been an awed witness and minor $0.02 contributor to the process; and you all rock.
Speaking of wish lists ...
It's no wonder developers have run away from the other nuke... why bother to create magic if the floor beneath you has rotted? RN is way cool.
I, only a programmer wanna-be and code rearranger, have had my vote cast for the Calendar for years and years. I mean... of all the things php is brilliant for, telling things about time is one of the best.
The other item high on my wishlist is a huge edit to YA. This module is seriously in the dark ages.
But wish lists are for tomorrow and forum themes are ubiquitous and today I'm sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for the RN magic to go public. |

Four of the themes have been made compliant, previously only Fisubice was. The new three are Slash, Slash Ocean and DeepBlue. The definition of this is that the theme itself is compliant and if none of the modules or tables that are using the theme or are used in the theme generates an error then the w3c validator will declare it compliant. For what it's worth, on a typical home page with news and a couple of messages you previously could generate hundreds of error messages with the three newly compliant themes. Now you will generate none. |

Wow! That must have taken some work.
Please though, no need for deepblue, I don't think anyone still use that theme. |

LOL mac2712, I can tell you right now. First of all book mark the w3c validator. Then as you run your theme, do a view source and paste the results into the validator. Then see what's wrong and work on fixing the code.
The most common problems are:
no quotes around attributes ... like bgcolor=ffffff instead of bgcolor="ffffff"
incorrectly nested tables, trs and tds ... this may just be FB or whoever authored the original themes but they didn't seem to care, if the browser they were using could render the theme correctly then "so what"
sticking images right in the tds instead of using styles for backgrounds (look at Slash and themearticle() as an example of what they did
While you are fixing the themes you might also want to change double quotes to single and use concatenation to improve efficiency. Since the theme gets hammered on pretty regularly as Nuke runs, minor statement by statement gains in efficiency can add up significantly. And, if your themes are written anything like the ones that came with PHPnuke standard then you might want to use indentation to line up opening and closing of tables, trs and tds. Right now if you are working on a standard theme, just figuring out how the nesting works is a major mental exercise.
The validator will point out other issues to you I'm sure. I probably had to revalidate 100 times to get compliance on the themes I worked on but I'm a relative newbie at this. |

LOL when I worked on sunset I think they guys at W3c wanted to kill me for too much resource usage.....
Another good method is to use the firefox with the TIDY Html validator plugin.
It's someway better than the w3c validator, because you can also check members only and admin pages and moreover is a much bigger pain in da *ss with warnings ...

Yeah, & should be & except (as Montego has kindly reminded me once or twice) in Header statements. And there are several places in the themes where the author has used "hard-coded" literals instead of constants thereby undermining the multi-lingual capabilities of Nuke. Like "writes" instead of _WRITES. |
