There are so many kinds of PHP CMSs now that I'm unsure which is the securest. I'm currently running PHP Nuke on one of my sites, I believe it's v 6.9 but can't remember for sure (not sure where to look to find out). I'm also running Raven's Nuke Sentinel v 2.1.3

The last time I posted in any significant quantity here well over a year ago, when I was setting up my then main site. I'm pretty sure alot has changed since then : o}

I now have at least three other sites I'm considering making PHP types. Which PHP CMS is the most secure right out of the box so to speak? Your input is valued.

BTW, hi Raven ... big hugzzz! *waves*

well,i can only speak from personal experience but as for most secure phpnuke version i would say ravennuke,as for other php cms i would go for joomla.
but keep this in mind....a cms can be secure but if you install bogus mods, components, whatever then the whole security means nothing...

And how is it for security? Right out of the box so to speak? What about themes (skins) for it? I'd like a CMS for which I can find alot of nice themes, be able to run a forum, maybe a blog, databases, etc.

Thanks for the info, what is the url to the German site for templates? Templates/Themes will be important to me because for at least one site I'll want my guest to be able to pick from several *seasonal/holiday* themes.

All CMSs have been hacked at some point. So going by which is the most secure is really a matter of context. Though I think most people would agree that its not standard nuke

Nuke with out the patches and fixes. Basically the one you can download from phpnuke.org or get off of Fantastico and other places.

Thanks : o}

Now, is there anyone else that has an opinion on which is the *best* CMS? Not just PHP but perhaps ASP or other webpage system styles?

I appreciate your answers!

I think thats more a matter of opinion. You should try them out and pick the one you like.

That would take way too much time, I'm trying to thin out the not so good ones so I can decide on the better ones LOL

I believe one of the greatest problems are guys who use different CMS and don´t really know how to use it and often it´s no wonder that they have more security issues than other users.

But to answer your question:What ist the best CMS ?
No doubt it´s not standard nuke and also Nuke 8.0 is ´t the revolution I believe.

I personally removed my Mambo/Joomla site because I never understood that chmod problem with that files completely also the support was very bad at that time.
I use RavenNuke because I believe its more secure and the better Nuke and I don´t need many mods and addons like in NukeEvo preinstalled because I prefer slimline since I installed my first Nuke site some years ago and thats also a way beneed other options to reduce the security problems.

The problem with comparisons like [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] and [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] is that they only consider the base package - rather than considering available enhancements or enhanced distributions (though some enhanced distributions attempt to be included in the comparison).

Mambo / Joomla seems to be more popular with business sites than with community sites. It has a number of nice extensions, but they tend to be mostly commercial, rather than GPL.

As I've said before on the same subject, a webmaster needs to define what factors are important - functionality, flexibility, available graphics / themes / appearance, support, security... You get the idea. Once you have that, it's easier to compare. Unfortunately, the existing comparison sites don't adequately address those things, but [ Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login! ] does a pretty good job.

Thanks for the info on the other comparison sites for CMS. I'll check them both out. Here's what I need for one site and here is what my host has available to me in Fantastico ...

I want a site that will have rockin themes, preferably with a little flash or flare, I don't like boring flat stuff. I'd probably want several themes to choose from, and perhaps even some along the lines of seasonal. I realize that I may well have to learn to make my own. Themes/Templates WILL be important to me. Some features I will want will be database capabilities so CMS will be a plus there. I'll want users to be able to become members, add links that relate to the site, have a blog, a forum, stuff like that. The site will be a christian ministries site.

Here's what Fantastico has besides image galleries, etc:

Blogs
b2evolution
Nucleus
pMachine Free
WordPress

Content Management
Drupal
Geeklog
Joomla
Mambo Open Source
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Post-Nuke
Siteframe
TYPO3
Xoops

Discussion Boards
phpBB2
SMF

On another of my sites as previously mentioned I do use PHP Nuke (6.9 I think). The site works well but I do have an error I should get around to fixing one of these days LOL ... it uses phpBB style forum. I have never used a blog so that will be a new experience should I decide to go there.

If I were to go with Raven's Nuke, and I know he's very reliable and as safe as can be ... how would I go about installing that to this new site which currently has nothing running? It's been so long since I tackled this I forgot it all LOL.

OH, and here's the gory details on PHP version, etc ...

Operating system Linux
Apache version 1.3.36 (Unix)
PERL version 5.8.7
PHP version 4.4.3
MySQL version 4.1.19-standard

The problem with Fantastico is that it often doesn't install the latest version, and frequently doesn't install important fixes and security. If you can create a MySQL database, create and assign a database user, edit a config.php text file, FTP files to your server and set some permissions, you'll have NO problem using the RavenNuke installer - it's really easy.

Geez I have done those things before, had a great tutorial printed out at one time, a step by step guide but I don't have it any longer : o/ I'll hafta look round for another web link on that and reprint. How can I tell what's the most current Raven Nuke and what Nuke Sentinel goes with that? How can I tell what themes I can/cannot use with this nuke? Thanks again!

*Wonders if Raven will let me have RavenNuke76 v2.10.00, since I don't see an official release of it yet* : o? Not much point in installing an older one if a newer one is pending right?
