I started getting user complaints last week about users logging in and getting a blank page. I did the usual investigations like cookie settings, session database issues, etc and came up blank.

I wasn't getting the issue myself, but that was because I was using the browser autologin. once I changed browsers I got the problem.
the admin login also doesn't suffer the blank page.

I went ahead and upgraded to the latest version to try to sort this out and again I get the same issue.

any ideas on a fix? I've tried extensively to search for a solution before asking.

fixed it for now
eval(base64 hack on phplist. it spreads to all php including ravennuke and persisted after update because of the theme php files that didn't get updated.
