With the advent of Social Networking, are GuestBooks still used/wanted/needed?
What do you think? I have been tweaking my KISGB and as I was thinking about releasing it I got to wondering if guestbooks are even used much anymore. With Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, etc., are they still used or needed?

KISGB v5.1.1 For Nuke Released!
My PHP Guestbook (KISGB) port to phpnuke has been upgraded to v5.1.1 from v5.0.2. The stand-alone version has had over 54,400 hits at http://hotscript.com and enjoys a 5 star rating! This release for phpnuke now offers all the functionality of the stand-alone version. See the version history in the docs folder.

KISGB v5.1.1 Released - Bug Fix
3 bugs have been identified and fixed. I have updated the kisgb download. If you downloaded kisgb before 7:30 AM (CST) then you can either download it again or just download an upgrade folder that contains the 4 files that are patched.

KISGB v5.1.0 - Stand Alone - Released!
After over a year of testing and development, v5.1.0 of my guestbook, KISGB, has been released! Read the history log for all of the changes, but the 2 to note are quoting of entries when responding and ability to monitor entries (Admin approval). Get KISGB v5.1.0.

KISGB 5.1 To Be Released (Stand Alone)!
Yes, it will be happening shortly! Over a year in development and testing, I am going to release it and then sit back and let the good times roll! There are some references to PHP 4.3. I always try to keep all history so that's why it's there. Later releases should not be affected. Read on for the changes.

KISGB Romanian Translation
Thanks to Dumitru Tudor from Ycaar Web Holland, KISGB now has a Romanian translation! I have loaded it to the KISGB sites and will be testing it for a week or so before making it available for download.

KISGB - Patch To Prevent Empty Posts
It has been discovered that some Google Links to KISGB :), will sometimes bypass the built in logic to keep empty messages from getting posted, through the method in which the links are formatted. This is in no way a security issue but is a major annoyance. I have issued a patch to fix this. The patch is not a replacement file, but replacement code that you must type in. The reason I did it this way is because there are still 100's of users using an older release of KISGB and I didn't want to have to issue several patch files.
I have updated all of the downloads also.

KISGB v5.1.0 Update
Update 5/22/2003: The Nuke version 5.1.0 is now on line and available for testing!
I will be releasing RC0 soon for the NON-NUKE version. The NUKE version will be released soon after. I normally do a closed beta but I am going to make this one public. Here is a list, so far, of the changes/enhancements. All of these changes are presently loaded to the standard public version of KISGB here.
Added logic to allow quoting of another message when posting a new message. The Admin will be able to turn it off (of course!)
Added code to always set error_reporting to E_ALL&~E_WARNING. Modified several scripts to make sure that the config.php include is the first statement. That way the error_reporting setting will always be in effect.
Added a new analyzer utility called syschk.php. This script will analyze your KISGB installation and determine if there are any problems with the configuration of KISGB and PHP. This utility should not be left installed! To do so will open your system to hacking attempts!!
The setting $use_footer was not functioning correctly. Keep in mind that you are not allowed to remove the footer unless prior permission has been received from ME!!! It is a requirement of the license.
Version 4.3.2RC of PHP was causing the updategb.php module to mess up the guestbook. Very ugly! I have incorporated the fix. the problem is that the developers changed the window's code.
Added BBCODE capability.
Added functionality to allow moderating of the entries prior to posting them.

I have started the incorporation of BBCODE to KISGB and am almost completed with adding the functionality to allow moderating of posts before accepting them :)
